From a Person who stay last year:
I'd love to recommend John's place. WE LOVED IT AND HAD A GREAT TIME.
The place is professionally cleaned each saturday. You do not have to clean at the end. Just pick up. We vaced a little and swept up the sand. Appliances were great! Kitchen is VERY WELL stocked with Microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, DISHWASHER, etc. He has every kind of kitchen tool there. We did buy and bring coffee mugs because we liked big cups of coffee. We left them there too. The walk to the beach is a stone's throw. Down a little road--I'd guess 250 yds and you're there. The beach is very sandy so there is a pad to leave strollers there and not try to drag through the sand. Also benches there to put on shoes to walk on the road. The beaches were never crowded. The weekend is busier due to the Beach Club there, but all those people are way to the right on the beach. On the left side, where you come from, it's great. The beach was very clean too--no seaweed washing up. Lots of shells in tidal ponds at the far right for kids to explore. The waves were JUST RIGHT. The little kids were not knocked over ( 2 - 5 year olds) but the 10 - 15 year olds had enough surf to use their boogey boards. From the porch you have a view of the whole beach and mainland to its left. You do not see directly out to the open ocean, but I was satisfied. There is a Cumberland Farms convenience store just around the corner--great for milk, bread, newspaper, etc. In Narragansett (~ 1 - 2 miles south), there is a super market--prices are a little high, but has everything. BUT, in Wakefiend, (Maybe 3 - 5 miles) there is a huge supermarket Stop and Shop, a chain that has great prices and anything you could possibly want. I have lived in RI almost all my life and always liked Bonnet Shores. I searched the whole Narragansett-Gallee area for a rental and found nothing else that has as good access to the beach and enough rooms to accomodate myself and two daughters, their spouses, their 5 preschoolers, and 2 more preteen grandsons. (I will not vouch for your sanity if you take on having two familys with their children.) It is the first time I rented because, until this year, I always lived in RI and had access to beaches. The area was pretty quiet. No roudy teenagers around, no cars squealing up the street. At the beach club, there is a band on Saturday night, and you can hear them, but it was not excessive. I can't remember when they stopped, but we felt it was not intrusive. You probably know the layout. 2 BR and bath upstairs, and 2BR and bath down. We LOVED this arrangement. Kids could nap downstairs with not interruptions. John even has a full set of videos there for you to see. He also has cable on the TV--kids loved it, they didn't have it at home. Great washer and dryer. My daughters loved the fenced back yard for the kids--also outside shower there. He has a gas grill there too. I feel John has done everything to make the house pretty, comfortable, but not too elaborate so you can set down sodas or cups of coffee and not worry about ruining furniture. He has blankets and comforters, but we had to bring our own sheets and towels. With a washer and dryer, you don't need too many. Kids are in bathing suits most of the time anyway. By the way, we went down to the fishing boats in Galelee and bought
los
I should be John's travel agent. All in all, we loved the place.
